Police are appealing for information following an armed robbery at the Co-op in Yardley Wood in December last year.

Just after 7am on Tuesday 19 December, three men wearing face coverings entered the Co-op store on Yardley Wood Road.

Three members of staff who were on duty at the time were taken to the rear cash office where one of the offenders assaulted the manager by slapping him in the face. He was also threatened with an axe.

Staff were forced to open the safe and cash was stolen. The offenders also took a number of bottles of spirits before making off in a black Mercedes E Class estate TDI.

A spokesperson from West Midlands Police said: “The level of violence used was completely unacceptable, the staff were put through a terrifying ordeal which they will no doubt carry with them for the rest of their lives.

We are urging anyone who has heard anyone talking about this offence or recognises the men from their clothing or the vehicle to contact us or Crimestoppers anonymously if preferred.

It is vitally important that these people are brought to justice.”

If anyone has any information regarding the identity of the suspects, motorbikes or the incident in general then please contact DC Sarah Cox on 101 or email s.j.cox@west-midlands.pnn.police.uk
