Appeals For Help: Cyclist Dies After City Centre Crash

A BIRMINGHAM cyclist has died in hospital a day after he was struck by a car in the city centre.

Jay O’Malley was on his bike heading from Bristol Road intending to turn right onto Belgrave Middlway towards Digbeth, when he was hit by a silver Rover 75, which was travelling on the Bristol Street out of the city at just before 6am on Tuesday 16 October.

The 33-year-old from Selly Oak was taken to hospital where his condition was not initially thought to be life threatening, however, his condition deteriorated and he died at 4pm on Wednesday 17 October.

Police are now appealing for any witnesses that they have not already spoken with to come forward.

Police Constable Paul Du Cros, from the Collision Investigation Unit, said: “We would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision, so that we can piece together the circumstances of how it happened.

“Our thoughts remain with Jay’s family at this difficult time.”

PC Du Cros can be contacted by calling the Collision Investigation Unit on 101.
