Car dealerships back charity event to raise funds for disabled children

Three Lookers Vauxhall car dealerships in Birmingham are backing a fundraising walk that will help to send disabled children, from the West Midlands, on a once-in-a-lifetime holiday to Disney World, in Florida.

Lookers Vauxhall Star City, Selly Oak and Yardley have sponsored Caudwell Children’s annual Destination Dreams 2km Fundraising Walk, around Kings Heath Park.

Caudwell Children is a national charity that provides practical and emotional support to disabled children and their families. Destination Dreams is the charity’s fully supported annual holiday, taking place in December, for up to 25 children with life threatening conditions.

The walk will start at 11:00am on Saturday 16th July, 2016, and will raise much needed funds for the trip to the ‘Sunshine State’.

Dee Allen, Brand Marketing Manager for Lookers Birmingham, said: “We are delighted to be able to support this event for the second successive year. The charity’s Destination Dreams holiday provides families with 24 hour paediatric medical care, for the duration of their trip, and gives families the funds and the confidence to holiday overseas.

“It’s an invaluable resource that has benefited many children from Birmingham and the West Midlands since its inception in 2007. We are proud to support such a worthy event.”

Sam Irwin, Senior Events Co-ordinator at Caudwell Children, said: “It’s fantastic that we have secured sponsorship from such a recognisable brand. It’s a fabulous event, in a beautiful park, and we’re urging families to register now to enjoy a brilliant day out.

“The 2km walk involves participants dressing up as their favourite superhero, or Disney character, so it’s going to be great fun. It’s a terrific way of exercising and raising cash, and children love wearing their magical Disney costumes.”

The walk is suitable for all ages and is accessible for wheelchairs, buggies and dogs! Child places are available for £6, which includes one free adult place.

Sam wants as many children as possible to take part in the walk. She concluded: “Destination Dreams is all about disabled children and their families enjoying themselves together and we want the walk to reflect that.

“I want parents, grandparents, aunties and uncles to encourage their children and families to participate in the walk.”

Adults can register, without a child, for £6 per person. All participants are encouraged to secure sponsorship.
