Council apologises for missed refuse collections

Birmingham City Council has apologised to residents after missing some refuse collections following the launch of a new refuse operating model for the city.

The new model has been created to provide a more modern and efficient service and has been developed in collective agreement with the Trade Unions and the council.

To minimise disruption, scheduled collection days for households are remaining the same but the rounds that crews are working will be different and the new routes will inevitably take some time to bed in and some roads or areas maybe missed.

Meanwhile the council has crews dedicated to clearing the back log, so if your bins are not collected by 3.30pm they may still be collected on the same day.

To report a missed collection (after 3:30pm) visit

Additional waste left at the sides of wheelie bins will not be removed unless it is the result of a previously reported missed collection. City officials have advised they will collect a reasonable amount (no larger than the body of the bin) of neatly bundled cardboard left next to your recycling wheelie bin, if it will not fit in the paper pod.
