Police have released shocking CCTV footage showing the moment a 12-year-old girl was knocked down by a hit-and-run driver on a zebra crossing as she walked to school.
The collision took place as the schoolgirl crossed Vicarage Road near to Kings Road, Kings Heath, at around 7.30am on Friday 21 November.
Footage captured by a bus, which had stopped at the crossing, shows an unknown red car overtaking the bus and colliding with the young girl as she crosses. The car then drives away, leaving the child with a broken ankle.
PC Laura Loy from the Road Traffic Investigation Unit said: “Despite the collision being captured by the camera, we have been unable to identify what the unknown car is. The collision took place at a busy time in the morning and there were lots of people around who may have seen what happened or be able to tell us what the car is.”
PC Loy added: “The driver of the vehicle may have told someone about this incident, so I am appealing to the driver or anyone who may have been told about the collision to come forward.
“The young girl suffered a serious injury to her leg and is still recovering; anyone with information should call 101.”
