Pudsey Bear To Switch On Kings Heath Christmas Lights This Saturday

Kings Heath Business Improvement District (Kings Heath BID) are pleased to present the first ever Kings Heath Winter Fest.

The announcement follows the success of the Kings Heath Street Festival, which took place back in September, and attracted thousands of attendees to York Road for a day-long celebration of Kings Heath.

The resounding response from all who attended showed a real demand for more events like this to take place, and now the Kings Heath Business Improvement District are set to do it all again, with the Kings Heath Winter Fest.

This Saturday (November 15th) will see the Kings Heath Village Square transformed with a free celebration for all the family. The Kings Heath Business Improvement District have joined forces with local businesses in Kings Heath, and Streetfood pioneers Brum Yum Yum to bring the perfect winter celebration.

Kings Heath are pulling out all the stops, being one of the first suburbs outside of the city centre to switch on their Christmas lights, and they have a very special guest, Pudsey Bear, who will be on hand for the big switch on, helping to raise money for this year’s BBC Children in Need appeal

Welcoming in attendees will be the live and local music stage, offering performances throughout the day from the likes of; The Trojans with Bebe Tromans, Andy Bennett (Ocean Colour Scene), Richard Heath (Bushbury Mountain Daredevils) and local talent in support.

There will also be a large outdoor food area, with Brum Yum Yum Streetfood favourites, and Kings Heath cafes and restaurants who will be offering lots freshly made festive food and drink in special pop-up kitchens and bars.

The Kings Heath Winter Fest will showcase the eclectic variety that makes Kings Heath so special and will ensure there is something for all tastes on the day.

Attendees can expect a large outdoor market area, which will bring together stalls exhibiting produce and wares from some of the best local independent traders in Kings Heath.

There will also be a plethora of activities for children to get involved in, with Pudsey Bear coming specially to switch on the Christmas lights, MAC Theatre activities and very special free workshops from CIRCUSMASH. Plus Sustrans will also be on hand to talk about the latest phase of the DIY streets project, and a mini fun fair for the mini thrill seekers in your life!

The Kings Heath Winter Fest will be the second edition in the Kings Heath Festival series. Organisers hope these events will become regular calendar fixtures, and to help support future events are launching the Enjoy Kings Heath Calendar 2015.

Kate Smart, Town Centre Manager explains: “It is our aim to offer a series of free events through-out the year to our local residents, business owners, and those who visit Kings Heath. We hope by launching the Enjoy Kings Heath Calendar we will be able to raise funds to support free and fun events, whilst offering a beautifully produced item that will appeal to a number of people.’

The Kings Heath Calendars will be available from many Kings Heath businesses after the Winter Fest, a list of stockists can be found at www.enjoykingsheath.com. The calendars feature images from in and around Kings Heath, and we are asking for a minimum donation of £3 per calendar with all profits going towards supporting community events like the Kings Heath Street Festival, and the Winter Fest.

Kate Smart continues; “We are really excited to show Birmingham an event which we hope highlights all the great things about Kings Heath. The high street, and beyond, holds many great shops, restaurants and cafes, and we hope with the Winter Fest we can showcase everything that makes Kings Heath so special.”

The Kings Heath Village Square will be transformed for a free fun day, starting from 12pm until 6pm, with the Pudsey Bear switching on the Christmas lights at 5pm, For more information about the Kings Heath Winter Fest please visit www.enjoykingsheath.com
