Kings Heath Switches On Christmas This Saturday

Kings Heath’s official Christmas lights switch-on will be marked with streetfood, crafts, live music and activities for all the family on Saturday from 12noon until 6pm.

The big switch-on will take place at 5pm, with BBC Radio 2’s Janice Long performing the honours, followed by a sound & light show, with a special performance by local panto legends The Dirty Old Folkers.

Kings Heath BID, All Saints Centre and Brum Yum Yum have teamed up to host what looks set to be Kings Heath’s most entertaining Christmas light switch-on ever. With its mix of unique independent retailers & big name brands, Kings Heath is one of the city’s most vibrant High St, and Christmas shopping kicks off in style this Saturday.

Town Centre Manager, Kate Smart, said “Christmas in Kings Heath is a busy and exciting time of year and we have the perfect blend of unique independent shops, cafes and restaurants, along with many of the UK’s biggest brands, making Kings Heath a Christmas shopping experience like no other.

“This year we’re starting Christmas with a bang. We invite everyone to come to Kings Heath on Saturday, stop by the Village Square, enjoy the celebrations and explore all that Kings Heath has to offer.”

Recently named by Visit Britain as one of Birmingham’s Top five destinations, Brum Yum Yum’s hugely popular KingshEATh Streetfood Market will be open all day with a dozen of the city’s favourite street chefs serving everything from wood-fired pizza, Belgian waffles and handmade hotdogs, to loaded burritos pulled pork, Krispy Kreme burgers and cajun frogs legs! The licensed café will provide winter warmth with mulled wine, boozy hot chocolate and other festive treats.

On the square there will also be a local makers’ craft market and indoors there will be pocket-money craft stalls, activities and fun & games for the kids. A full programme of live music will feature well-known local bands alongside rising talent including Call Me Unique, Matt Sheehan and Danieal.

Duncan Stanley, founder of Brum Yum Yum, added “We are delighted to be part of Kings Heath’s switch-on celebrations. Our shows have a great atmosphere and are always well attended. We expect this one to be something really special!”
