Firefighters Discover Cannabis Farm While Attending A Serious Fire

Police were alerted at 3.50AM yesterday morning (Sept 12) after firefighters from West Midlands Fire Service tackled a blaze at an address on Millbrook Road in Kings Heath.

A small cannabis farm was discovered in a downstairs room with around 15 plants. It’s understood the property is rented and efforts are on-going to trace the tenants.

Mike Hall from West Midlands Police’s Cannabis Disposal Team, said: “Cannabis farms are very often dangerous scenes with electricity supplies being overloaded and often tampered with – combined with irrigation systems for the plants it can be a lethal combination.

“We believe this is a rented property; it again illustrates how important it is for landlords to make regular checks on their property to make sure the tenants are sticking to the terms of their agreement and not using it for criminal purposes. This is especially important for tenants offering lump sum payments up front – that may indicate they don’t want to be disturbed.”
