A man has been arrested on suspicion of carrying out multiple knifepoint robberies at shops and supermarkets, including one in Druids Heath.

The 33-year-old was detained at an address in Willenhall on Thursday morning and taken into custody. He is accused of seven robberies committed between 2 and 23 August across Birmingham and the Black Country.

The incidents took place in Darlaston, Wednesbury, Tipton, Smethwick, Wolverhampton and Druids Heath. In each case, goods including alcohol were stolen and staff were threatened with a knife.

The arrest was made by officers from Walsall’s Neighbourhood Crime Team as part of a joint operation with colleagues in Sandwell and Wolverhampton.

Detective Inspector Kate Tromans said: “These were serious offences which could have resulted in significant harm to members of the public and staff. As part of a joint operation we were able to identify a suspect who was arrested this morning.”

The man remains in custody as enquiries continue.
