York Road – home of independent retail in Birmingham – is pleased to welcome a high quality children’s shoe shop to its all-encompassing mix.

The retail sector has had its obvious difficulties in recent years, but Kings Heath as a town has remained an encouraging destination for people to open and run independent businesses.

Cooshoo, is a family owned, high quality independent shoe shop – a rarity around Birmingham. To promote the launch of the new business and celebrate the ever growing independent community in Kings Heath, Cooshoo are hosting a launch event, which will take place on Saturday April 19, at the store on 21a York Road.

As a family of two young children, owners Michael and Anna Swift have made sure there will be plenty going on throughout the day for the little ones to enjoy. There will be a competition to win a bike, shoe shine and shoe fitting services and a very special visit from Peppa and George Pig.

Town Centre Manager Kate Smart is keen to make sure that these independent retailers get celebrated in a way that is befitting of their success and contribution to Kings Heath as a bustling destination. She said:

“Another young independent business is choosing Kings Heath for its home – adding to the eclectic offer in Kings Heath.

“Being a parent myself, I know how hard it is to find interesting but quality shoes for little feet. That’s what makes me so thrilled to welcome Anna and Michael to the home of independents!”

Cooshoo owners Anna and Michael are passionate about their business. Mrs Swift said:

“We are thrilled to be opening in an active community of independent retailers. We’ll be stocking some of the top European brands especially for Kids.

“As parents of two young children, and over the years, we’ve struggled to find well designed, quality made fitted shoes for our children in Birmingham, where we live.

“We’ve spent the last 3 years learning about the industry and training to fit shoes with ‘The Society of Shoe of Fitters’. We are now ready to bring cool quality children’s shoes to Birmingham.

“We are confident that the shoes we stock at Cooshoo and our attentive service will be well received and we plan to add more great brands as we develop.”
